$1000 will provide funds for outreach materials including large-print brochures and fliers. It will help us provide transportation for attendees to and from a local senior community (we live in a high-poverty area with poor public transportation, and many of our constituents lack reliable transporation). It will also help purchase materials to help senior gardeners, including large-handled planting tools, padding for chairs, platforms to raise beds to seated height, seedlings, seeds, and pots for attendees to take home and start a window or front stoop garden. Finally, it will underwrite the cost of a healthy lunch, afternoon refreshments and the materials for a healthy cooking demo.

This workshop series will span the next few months, and we have already begun the process of building at our first workshop of the series where we made mud bricks (see photos on our Facebook page!). Our budget is very tight and this $1,000 will allow us to purchase the right materials that we need for our building, so that it is strong and of good quality. Among the materials we need are mud and sand, bamboo, some tools, used windows from the scrapyard, and materials for building a green roof.

The $1000 will help provide much needed funding to help make this project a reality. This money will go towards covering all the material costs of building an earthbench as well as a stipend for all the time it will take for me to lead the project. These materials costs include wood framing for an earthbench roof and for the construction materials such as sand and gravel and the transportation costs to transport these materials. It will also provide a source of compensation for the time I will invest into this earthbench project.

I do not have a video camera that would allow me to load some tutorials for people and children everywhere to see how easy it is to create art from aluminum cans....I would also go to schools and camps to show the process as well.

Funds will pay for 6 weeks of teaching-artist visits, all supplies, and for the creation of a book/chapbook which compiles all of the writing done by these students (with their permission, of course) so as to serve as a positive example of how to channel thoughts, feelings, and emotions into something positive, constructive, and creative.

We empower people with practical ecological skills and solutions that they can create in their own backyards. We invite local members of the community to apprentice and learn with us, and then take the idea to people in their own communities. $1,000 would go toward kicking off our apprentice program and sponsoring workshop materials. The materials cost for one 16"x16" box is $40 and includes a build sheet, wood, quality amended soil, and organic seedlings. We would love to partner with GOOD to create new portable farm square footage in our communities!

Alternative Network for Employee Wellness has successfully spearheaded and co-convened events in the past years to sustain community activism and social change. We hope that the funds received will give us access to facilitate "ANEW Roundtable for Leaders", a bi-monthly 8 week series where we collectively work develop practices that value the organizational leadership of those we serve. While we collaborate with other organizations that support our endeavor to provide quality resources for our constituents’ Professional Quality of Life, ANEW-NY is a self-starter and projects the funds will aid in its structural development such web management and marketing strategies.

The GOOD funds will help instill an understanding, appreciation and connection to the natural world at a young age creating better stewards of the environmental for future generations. Funds from GOOD will be used to offer this workshop FREE to 100 underserved elementary age students from Southwestern Pennsylvania schools helping them meet the state Academic Standards of Environment & Ecology, the purchase of native wildflower seeds from a local nursery and to the purchase of 5 three-man slingshots to disperse the seeds. The compost will be donated in-kind by the local township of Upper St. Clair.

Additional workshop details, including a mission statement, overview, and statement of integrity can be found on the website listed with this submission. The $1,000 grant would award be used for the following: 1) Creating and printing information packets for participants to keep; 2) Purchasing “thumb drives” for each participant to keep, allowing participants' work to be saved from session-to-session, digital copies of information packets provided, and will provide storage of participants' completed resumes and cover letters for their own later use; 3) Any fees associated with reserving and/or using training facilities; 4) The acquisition of a video camera for recording training sessions and testimonials.

I already teach appraisal standards (The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, or USPAP) to appraisers for continuing education requirements. This grant will allow me to organize information and develop the first of a new series of free online video classes for non-appraisers. The funds will be used for software and hardware requirements to record, edit, and post the classes online for free to educate the public. The concept of #USPAPforGood is to turn a requirement (i.e, the continuing education requirement) into something good. This grant will be used to turn the appraisal principles and process as provided in USPAP into a campaign to educate the public.

The money will provide the instructor's fee, and pay for printing costs for the anthology. I'm hoping to make the class free or low-cost to participants. I'll be collaborating with Kearny Street Workshop, an Asian Pacific American arts nonprofit with a writing program, to offer this workshop. Their classes are not restricted to Asian Pacific Islanders, and they do have an established audience and track record. They'll be providing support in publicizing the class and producing the anthology.

Individuals will be given the resources they need to empower themselves to heal, restore, and maintain optimum psychological and physical health. The spiritual city of Miami will provide yoga, meditation, energy and holistic healing classes to sustain a better quality of living on earth. International and local spiritual leaders will be invited to attend. Ambrosia will have an art exhibit, humanitarian performers, organic food and cooking classes, gardening programs and more! Heart for Humanity will host this workshop to restore living wellness through education and fun activities. These efforts will benefit society through unity, sustainable health and energy renewal.

The funds will allow us to engage San Diegans who care about their local biological diversity, which includes birds who depend on our backyards. We'll be able to provide the supplies to build a minimum of ten birdbaths, hosted by the real-life inventor of this ingenious solar-powered bath! We'll allow for additional participants to attend the workshop with their own supplies, and will provide lots of other information for creating a wildlife-friendly garden, including suggestions for native plants to attract birds.

Workshops started last year in Milan, Italy for design students. And continued in New York with small design organizations. The next stop is Istanbul. There are elements of •breathing, •balance, •flexibility and •endurance combined with •trust and collaboration games. These activities which are also a part of my thesis work, are designed to be highly customizable and collaborative. In order to keep the change sustainable and to create a strong community to share, - a DIY toolkit and - an interactive website is needed. The grant will be used to support the action with technology and communication. Let's move!

In 2012-13, over 3500 underserved youth nationwide will engage in this student-centered, project-based, blended learning education innovation as an integrated offering of their standard in-school curriculum. To support this education transformation, educators and administrators engage in in-person workshops that empower them with the skills and knowledge to turn their classrooms into dynamic digital learning labs. A $1000 Big Wheel Brigade and GOOD grant will assist in allowing educators to attend the training and become digital learning leaders.

GOOD's funding will help to support this project by allowing us to purchase a video camera for the program, to hire a professional videographer to work with our students, to purchase materials for props and costumes, and to provide food for the students.

Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our volunteers, all donations go directly toward purchasing the supplies - paper, crayons, binding materials, toner - we need to run our Storytelling and Bookmaking workshops three times a week throughout the school year. All of 826NYC's workshops are free for NYC students and public schools.

With the funding of $1,000, we can invite Junior Achievement to teach the best financial literacy course possible as part of the College Preparation Course, significantly influencing the lives of the workshop’s participants. They will learn fundamental elements of their personal finances--earnings, saving and investing, budgeting, credit, and risk management--and, consequently, be able to apply these skills in their daily lives. Our yearlong workshop costs $12,000, and we sponsor high schools if they lack the sufficient budget to implement the workshop. We have raised 85% of the cost from sponsors such as Brigham Young University ($7,400), The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation ($1,500), Apple ($600), Zion’s Bank ($500), and so forth.
