Overview of Workshop

In this five-week writing workshop, we will meet each week in a different neighborhood in San Francisco, explore, discuss, then write stories, poems, and texts. The result will be an anthology -- a written map of our city. We will learn writing skills and how to conceptualize space in words.

The Specifics: How will the $1,000 help you host your workshop?

The money will provide the instructor’s fee, and pay for printing costs for the anthology. I’m hoping to make the class free or low-cost to participants. I’ll be collaborating with Kearny Street Workshop, an Asian Pacific American arts nonprofit with a writing program, to offer this workshop. Their classes are not restricted to Asian Pacific Islanders, and they do have an established audience and track record. They’ll be providing support in publicizing the class and producing the anthology.

Please note that the video is from a reading of the Intergenerational Writers Lab, a writer workshop that KSW offered for several years, sometimes in collaboration with Intersection for the Arts.
