Overview of Workshop

WE Community Gardens hosts two gardening workshops each year. This fall (September 15), we're hosting a specialized workshop just for senior citizens. We plan to purchase equipment and tools to help make gardening easier for seniors. We also plan to increase our senior outreach efforts.

The Specifics: How will the $1,000 help you host your workshop?

$1000 will provide funds for outreach materials including large-print brochures and fliers. It will help us provide transportation for attendees to and from a local senior community (we live in a high-poverty area with poor public transportation, and many of our constituents lack reliable transporation). It will also help purchase materials to help senior gardeners, including large-handled planting tools, padding for chairs, platforms to raise beds to seated height, seedlings, seeds, and pots for attendees to take home and start a window or front stoop garden. Finally, it will underwrite the cost of a healthy lunch, afternoon refreshments and the materials for a healthy cooking demo.
