Overview of Workshop

Instilling a sense of value for nature through stewardship, Growing Up Fields of Color gives underserved youth in SW PA a chance to use native wildflower seed bombs to reseed a meadow. We’ll cover the importance of meadows, related careers & more while being active outdoors & playing in the mud!

The Specifics: How will the $1,000 help you host your workshop?

The GOOD funds will help instill an understanding, appreciation and connection to the natural world at a young age creating better stewards of the environmental for future generations. Funds from GOOD will be used to offer this workshop FREE to 100 underserved elementary age students from Southwestern Pennsylvania schools helping them meet the state Academic Standards of Environment & Ecology, the purchase of native wildflower seeds from a local nursery and to the purchase of 5 three-man slingshots to disperse the seeds. The compost will be donated in-kind by the local township of Upper St. Clair.

We have a test run of this program running tomorrow with a group of special needs students! What a better way to engage students of all abilities in the environment than to let them play while they learn!

Children love to have fun outdoors, but many do not have opportunites to visit the woods. This workshop will expose them to some of the mysteries of nature under the watchful eyes and supportive hands of facilitators who can add context and meaning to a walk in the woods. It can make a lastoing impression on a young mind and awaken it to new possibilities.
